According to Bulbapedia, ALL of those are Kanto badges. They're just different badges than Ash got?

It would make a lot of sense for there to be a gym of each type.
In yellow, we definitely go through Ash's journey as he does in the anime.
Presumably, in red and blue versions, we go through a very similar journey of the shockingly similar Red as he travels through the same cities in Kanto.
They also imply that you need a "minimum" of eight badges to enter the pokemon league championship, so there must be more to be earned.
They should definitely work with that and make a game where you experience a different adventure in the other cities we missed along the way!

Well, in HG/SS, there are 16 badges to collect total, with 8 in each region. Perhaps other badges exist from other areas or something, but they apply as similar credit for the Indigo League?

This could be true, maybe regions smaller then Kanto, don't have enough of a population to have their own entire pokemon league, but they still want to be apart of the pokemon trainer scene, so they have a gym that is apart of the Indigo League.
The Orange League is an exception because of how they have so many different islands with a large population in total they can have a league of their own outside any other, and traveling between their own islands is much more convenient for them then going all the way to Kanto.

maybe....I dont know. maybe it's just somthing the writers of the show messed up. They made alot of mistakes in season 1, another being pokemon levels. ( notice they mentioned them then and dont mentioned them now. I dont know but...Gary has alot of badges, its good to know that he's working alot harder then ash is.

Well also take this into consideration.
Have you ever noticed that there are some towns and cities that Ash does visit in the Anime that are basically ignored in the games? What if some of those towns had Gyms and Ash never knew it?

My dream game would have at least 10 towns that don't have gyms, but at least half of them would be important in some way.
Back on topic, I agree with everything above. There are a lot more gyms in each region than what Ash sees........ (don't really know what to say)
