Since HG/SS is almost here, let's take a look back at the starter sprites!
We'll start with Chikorita:
She has stayed pretty consistant from the beginning. Her body is now a light green color while it used to be a light yellow color though. I sort of like the light yellow more! Also, after the first gen, it seems she lost her cat smile ~> :3
Next up, Totodile:
The overall design here has also stayed pretty consistant. His chest color was white, and is now yellow, but I'm assuming that was due to a graphic limitation from the early games. (although, Chikorita has yellow coloring on her body. So go figure)
Finally, Cyndaquil:
In gold/crystal he looks...soo skinny! I know he's supposed to be roughly based off of an anteater, but the thin nose just looks odd when compared to the newer sprites.
Overall, I'd say the HG/SS sprites didn't stray to far from diamond/pearl/platinum for the starters.
And now a look into the past at Mew and Venusaur...
I'd have to say, these two sprites bother me >_<!
When I played the games originally, I didn't think much of it, but now that graphics have improved, it's funny to look back. Mew has some type of tumor on his head, and his feet look like they got ran over or something.
As for Venusaur's back sprite, what the heck! I can barely tell what I'm looking at! If I'm looking at the sprite correctly, the flower on his back is pointing straight forward instead of up into the sky. Very strange!
