HomeGameFreak has just recently hired 3D graphic artists. GameFreak does nothing other than pokemon, so it may be possible to have at least some 3D graphics in the 5th generation games.

Doesn't the DS have some 3D images already for Pokémon games? Like the houses and such? I wonder how they would add more in though...

Maybe PokeDex images? I'm guessing that they're just improving on the depth they added to the overworld in DPPt.
