How to find shiny pokemon!

All 500+ Pokemon have an alternate color they an be found in, some alot diffrent then there their normal color and some almost the same. Shiny pokemon are rare, but no better then normal pokemom. There's a 1 and 1892 chance of finding a shiny pokemon in the wild.

Always be sure to bring pokeballs with you. Because you never know when your going to run into one! even if your not trying to catch one you can still run into a shiny. One time I ran into a shiny bidoof, didnt have any pokeballs and we mad all day long. Yeah you can heat to get shinies, but its not near as much fun as actually getting them.

Running into a shiny legendary! If you run into these, I'm jealous of you! If its a kanto bird, or a johto dog that will run away, dont freak-as it will remain shiny the next time you see it. How ever it is harder to catch a shiny legendary, being that there well..legendary

Obtain a shiny starter! Yes this is possible. While there is no real method in doing this, it is possible. Keep soft reseting! what does that mean? save because you choose your starter. It took me 78 tries once, it may take you more or less. This method will work on every game, generation 2+

Finding a shiny relies on alot of luck! The only other way is through cheating! Don't be a cheater!

Fortunatly, generation four introduced a new device to help obtain shinies, by " chaining" them. While it will make the job easier, it isnt by very much, your going to have to pay attention to your nintendo DS screen at all times. Your going to want to build a chain up of 40 pokemon, when there is one near, the grass will sparkle. Starting with easy pokemon like starly, bidoof and shinx. This will make it easier if ur a beginner. In chaining there are two diffrent types of grass, normal and flashing. Pokeradar exculusive pokemon live in flashing patches.

Here is some tips:

- Bring lots of pokeballs!
- Stare at the screen, but dont hurt ur eyesss
- be somewhere where your not going to be disturbed while you chain
- When you run into a shiny DO NOT run, as this will break your chain
- If you want a shiny pokemon with a certain nature, get a pokemon with the synchronize ability that has the nature you want and put it at the front of your party. If you dont have one you an always order one from the dream league shop!
- If your getting mad or fustrated, please take a break, there's no reason to get upset while playing a game
- Abilities can effect your chances! Pokemon with the static ability will attract eletric shinies while magnet pull will attract steel types

How to chain!

Here are things you will absolutely need:

Once you have completed the regional, you can obtain the Poke Radar from Professor Rowan in Sandgem Town. ( dont flip, you just gatta see them, not catch them}
The Poke Radar is a tool that helps you find non-Sinnoh Pokemon that you couldnt get in Diamond/Pearl. It can only be used in regular grassy areas (not tall grass), and cannot be used anywhere else.

For the app, Once you've obtained the National Dex, visit Professor Oak at Pal Park and he'll give it to you. Nice old man! This app also helps you keep track of your Pokemon chains. It shows you your top three highest as well as the ones ur worken on right now.
Know your grasses:!
Normal grass: contains normal sinnoh pokemon
flashing grass: contains pokerador exclusive pokemon
shiny grass: contains a shiny pokemon

First of all, obtain the pokeradar and find out where the pokemon is that'd youd like to chain for. For example if you wanted a shiny bidoof, we would go to route 201. Run into wild pokemon until you run into starly, then defeat the pokemon. You have now started a wonderful chain of this pokemon! one down, thirty nine to go right? Poketch app 20 will let you know! The grass will shake after your battle, go the the farthest patch of grass, but be sure to still be within the radar range.

Here is a split up of the grass patches

Shiny pokemon! A guide! Eer

Two continue your chain, walk into a shaking patch of grass that contains the same kind of pokemon your trying to get shiny. If your trying to get a shiny bidoof and you run into a starly it will break your chain. You will know your going to battle a wild starly because the pokeon your trying to get shiny will be the pokemon in the shaking grass! You also want to go to the farthest patch of grass from where you first battled, like in the picture above, your going to want to go to zone 4 if you started your chain in zone 1
Like ive said before always go to the path farthest away from you,but only if it also meets all of the other requirements like not being near an edge. If the farthest patch away from you is not the right type of shaking grass, you'll need to reset the Radar and try again. Like if you started your chain in a flashing patch, your going to want to stay, walking into flashing patches!
Sometimes, your going to need to reset your pokeradar,To do this, all you have to do is walk the amount of steps it tells you to when you try to use it. This can be hard though, because it's very important that you don't accidentally walk into any of the patches that shook when you used the Radar last. Be Barry careful! If you can't remember exactly where all of the patches shook, just walk back and forth until you're able to use the Radar again. Try not to mess yourself up
Remember the larger your chain is, the easier it will be to locate a shiny.

The results can be worth it.

Other ways:
Credit to jolteon for adding this!

There are also two other methods to getting shiny pokemon. You can utilize the game's random number generator to hatch or find shinies, even legends. That's *way* too complicated for me to write a guide on, so if you're interested you can google "Pokemon RNG abuse" for a guide.

Alternatively, you can hatch shinies using the Masuda method. One of the programmers wrote into the game that the chances of hatching a shiny are 4 times better if you breed two pokemon from different language sets, i.e., a japanese growlithe and an english ditto. That makes your chances something like 1/2046 (?)
Note: you can save before you are given the egg, hatch it, and soft-reset to that point in order to utilize the masuda method. You cannot, however, reset to the point before the egg is hatched- it has already been determined whether or not the pokemon will be shiny.

In the old games!

Shiny pokeon could be obtained as early as generation two, but back then - not counting the red gyrados- they were alot harder to come by. Back then the chances of finding a shiny pokemon were based off the pokemon's Iv's. If a Pokémon's Speed, Defense, and Special IVs are 10, and its Attack IV is 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 11, 14 or 15, it will be Shiny. If one breeds a shiny pokemon properly in the old games, you will have a 1/64 chance of finding a shiny! A pokemon that starts out shiny will always be shiny.

May I include to always have some Repels with you? This prevents wild Pokémon which are not part of the PokéRadar from appearing. But a rather helpful guide, nonetheless.

Just a little correction: the chances of finding a shiny normally are 1/8192.

More information I've gleaned:
When you chain pokemon with the pokeradar, the more you chain, the higher your chances of getting a shiny pokemon. After chaining 40 pokemon, your chances of finding a shiny are 1/200 and they will not increase after that. Your best bet at that point is to leave the grass and keep resetting the pokeradar until you find shiny grass.

Things that jolteon mentioned might be good to include in the future. Nice guide though!

And about the shiny legendaries...I thought they were equally as hard to catch as other legendaries o3o (once you find them anyway)
