"Coming Out" to My Parents?

Well, I think it's time to ask you guys for advice.
I am now openly gay. Some of you may be homophobic, or may be uneasy about the thought. I can assure you, I am as just as uneasy as well. Now, I have known since about 2nd Year (I think that is 9th Grade in America?), but have been rejecting the idea, and trying to push it aside. I am only now realising that I can't change that aspect of me, and I am now openly gay to my friends; they are all fine with it. Even the boys.

Now, I would like to ask anyone here who might have any suggestions or ideas about how to go 'round telling my parents. I know they will probably bombard me with questions and self-guilt, but I am sure I can cope with that. I just want to tell them in a way they wont reject me; disown me; hate me, that sort of thing. I do have a younger brother, so I hope that will help them get over the fact I wont be having any grand children, and that he will.

I am just a little confuzzled, 'tis all. Thanks to anyone who will support me & can give advice. (:

Well Jojo, I'm glad you can openly express your feelings to your friends and to us, and that's a great start :3

1. Start by giving subtle hints to your parents.
2. After they start to figure it out, just as if you can talk with them for a while. They'll probably know what's going on by now, if they've been observing your recent subtle hints.
3. I'm sure your parents won't disown you or hate you. They might be a little dumbfounded for a while, but no good parent would hate their kid for being who they are.

Either way, I hope you find happiness with someone, and I'm sure your parents will be fine with your decision!

I will definately try the subtle hints. I have observed the way my mum and dad react to things involving homosexuals on the television recently (Eastenders, the news etc.), and they are both like: FFS!

It's good you can share that to your friends and us,(no wonder you told Blaze to put us for shipping. You are awesome~). To tell your parents, if the subtle hints don't work, make sure you tell them everything. Your parents shouldn't get mad, or blame themselves, (notice "shouldn't"), and you can be happy that you got it off your chest. Hope it goes well.

Hopefully they will be understanding people and accept you the way you are, although they might ask you questions like, "When did it start?", so preparing yourself for these questions is a big help. If you don't like being bombarded by questions, you could tell either your mother or father first, but pick the one that is more understanding and accepting.

I'm glad you're open that you're gay. Being open and telling people that you are is pretty difficult.

I'm not really sure if I can offer any real help in this situation..... but I think just being honest with them and telling them face-to-face would be the best thing to do.... Also, what Paradox and Meap said....

And as for telling your parents, just find a chance to tell the one who would listen and understand better~ They wouldn't do anything to you or anything, silly xD Your parents love you no matter what o3o

I honestly think you should just go and tell your parents when you're ready. Or when you want to, because either way, they're still your parents and nothing can change that.
They might be a bit weird about it but I'm sure they'll come around and just accept you for who you are.
And it's great that you're expressing yourself, rather than hiding it and being afraid

I will take onboard what everybody has said. I think that I may tell my father first as he has 5 brothers and sisters, and the youngest child; my Auntie Debbie, is gay, so he would be more understanding having a gay member already in the family.

My mother on the other hand is quite anti-gay, and has never had a gay member in her family before, so maybe it's best to tell her at a later date.

Also, Pk, I will try to be myself as much as possible.

Wow, you are very trusting. If you can open up to us, your friends, then you can definitly open up to your parents. I think Meap is right just take his advice.

Well I reckon you just tell 'em the truth. Your gay and there is nothing they can do to change that fact. I will admit I'm a bit uneasy about this... But I'm sure thats nothing time will fix and after all we're maters right? Ok heres my advise.
1) Be strong don't act unsure of yourself or they'll get picky

I just gave some great advise myself. If your going to do it then fine do your best but if you fail however badly fail with honour and dignity!
