A Tale of Nidoran: White Sun, Black Moon
A crisp, clean taste pervaded the air. Droplets of cheerful morning dew slowly turned to mist as the sun rose closer to the peak of day. The trees rejoiced the sweet feel of the morning. Jubilant starly songs added to the peaceful atmosphere. Red, ripe cherry berries contrasted greatly from the clean, blue rawst berries on their adjacent bushes. The combined scent spicy, sweet, bitter, sour and dry berries gave the air an interestingly unique aroma that, if materially visible, would look like a tangy, calm, yet somehow sharp mixture of abstract colors.
With the sound of shuffling leaves, a small purple head, accompanied with a spiky body, popped out from the shadows of a small shrub and scuttled towards a bush bursting with pink, heart-shaped pecha berries that were at the peak of ripeness. The small male Nidoran leaped up and swiftly snapped up a perfect berry from near the top of the bush. It made quick work of the pecha berry, and then jumped up for another.
Suddenly, out of seemingly nowhere, a strong, fierce gust shoved itself through the dense foliage and trees with such power that the little Nidoran was sent flying through the air. It landed roughly against the trunk of a tree with a cry. Dark, evil storm clouds now possessed the previous clear blue sky. Sharp thunder followed in the trail of white lightning and the wind continued to scream fiercely as if it was running in terror. Nidoran lay clinging to the soil, shaking in absolute terror. What’s happening? Why is this happening? Is this the end? All these questions repeatedly swarmed through the little Nidoran’s mind. No more starlys sang.
Aside from the terror that Nidoran felt, he also felt very confused. How on earth did everything change so suddenly? There he was just minding his own business enjoying the great day, but then everything flipped in a matter of seconds! The little Nidoran just couldn’t fathom what had just happened.
From deep in the angry clouds, a whirling maelstrom began to form. Lightning crackled within the swirling thunder caps. The wind grew fiercer. In the heart of the maelstrom, a dark blotch began to form. With a terrible tearing sound, trees became airborne and were sucked towards the now gaping dark blotch. Nidoran stared wide-eyed at the enormous maelstrom.
A sudden, exceptionally strong gust caused Nidoran to lose its claw hold on the ground. The small Nidoran screamed as the air cements carried him towards the center of the maelstrom. The closer he got to the center blotch of the maelstrom, the faster the clouds whirled, and now he could make out a tightly packed and organized vertex. Could it be a portal to some other worldly dimension? Nidoran did not know, nor could he do anything to break free of the powerful current. The vortex was closing in. Up close it appeared to have a diameter of 100 yards- one hundred yards of pure spiraling darkness. A few seconds, and Nidoran plunged into pitch shadow.
All seemed to reverse and alter in the pitch. Nidoran could not see nor hear anything, but the vortex felt like an invisible inferno of chaos. Oddly enough, Nidoran was not completely terrified. In the distance, Nidoran saw a distant whitish light. Was the light getting closer, or just farther away? It was impossible to distinguish. Was it moving fast? Slow? Not at all? The mysterious dark vortex had confused all of the little Nidoran’s senses.
A sudden flare of white light blinded Nidoran. He felt tugging at his body, as if he was getting sucked into something. In a few seconds, the sensation disappeared. Through his closed eyelids, Nidoran could tell that the bright white light had faded. Slowly, Nidoran opened his eyes. What the little Nidoran saw made him stare wide-eyed in an awed shock. The vortex that had sucked him in was indeed a portal.
Gravity seemed non-existent in this odd world, for the small Nidoran found himself floating in mid-air with nothingness around him. Smokey black and white clouds danced on a chaotic, slow dance in the air. It looked as if this entire world compromised of those early beautiful clouds. Black static coursed through the clouds. Throughout the clouds, Nidoran glimpsed flashes of shiny black and white glass files forming and reforming into abstract figurative designs. Even though this world was beautiful to Nidoran’s eyes, he could feel and aura of unease and evil.
As the little Nidoran span around marveling at this strange world, something caught his eye. High above the Nidoran’s position hung a white sun. Sparkling white whips of flames revolved around it. The sight of the sun took Nidoran’s breath away. Knowing how unwise staring at a sun was, the little Nidoran looked away only to come to yet another shockingly beautiful sight.
About 100 degrees to the right hung a black crescent moon. Black electricity sparked across the entire surface of the onyx moon. Small sparks of red danced amongst the black electric currents. Both the white sun and the black moon gave out a slight pressure of tension.
In the distance, Nidoran heard a roar. It sounded as if it belonged to a great beast. Terror filled the little Nidoran once again. The first roar was then followed by another, different roar. Nidoran got the feeling that this was not a friendly matter.
Suddenly a red shot of flame violently whizzed towards Nidoran. He somehow manages to dodge it by inches. The heat of the flames was intense. From the direction that the stray attack had come from, the small Nidoran could see a large figure flying towards him. As the figure got closer, Nidoran could make it out as a Pokémon. A black Pokémon with red eyes. Judging by the distance, the Pokémon must have been huge.
In a flash, the black Pokémon swerved to the right and the small Nidoran caught a glimpse of a white beast, also a Pokémon, as it opened its maw and unleashed a great fire ball at where the black Pokémon had been just moments before- in Nidoran’s direction. Seeing the impending danger, the little Nidoran hurriedly used quick attack to dodge the fiery blast.
Now that the fireball was gone and the dragons were closer, Nidoran took a closer look at the white dragon. It had blue eyes. A sudden realization hit Nidoran. The two dragons matched the descriptions in a bedtime story his mommy and daddy read to him when he couldn’t sleep….. they were Reshiram and Zekrom. The little Nidoran’s eyes widened as the two continued racing in his direction. Neither of them seemed to have noticed the small Nidoran floating in their realm.
Now the fleeing Zekrom and the pursuing Reshiram were almost directly in front of the little Nidoran. Zekrom suddenly veered up and turned around. Reshiram stopped its pursuit. The little Nidoran cried out in terror as it realized what kind of situation he was in being directly between the two powerful dragons. Red electricity crackled around Zekrom and blue flames raced around Reshiram as both the dragons began charging up their attacks. Nidoran was frozen in place with terror.
Both beasts had finished charging. As one the raised their heads and released their strongest attacks. Nidoran saw his young life flash before his eyes. His heart beat like a taught drum running a million miles a second. He closed his eyes and prepared for the end. The end didn’t come.
Nidoran heard two consecutive explosions, one on either side and felt smoke curling around him. Slowly, the small Nidoran opened his eyes. To his left facing Zekrom stood the ghostly dark figure of Darkrai. To the right was Cresselia, shining with brilliance. The little Nidoran couldn’t believe what was happening. His inward smile faded as he lost consciousness.
