LET'S LEARN

Intro:
In 1998, the pokemon trainer card game instantly became a hit, along with the games and the television show. Most of the cards are recognized for their art work, or halographic features. Every year the game gets better and better with even more cards to use.

Types:

First of all you need to be aware that there are 3 type of cards. pokemon cards, trainer cards and type cards.

Pokemon cards are what you battle with.
Trainer cards...well they effect what happans, and what you an do.
type cards, also known as energy cards give your pokemon the energy to make an attack

There are examples of the 3 types of cards

Status condition!
The five standard status effects in the PTCG are Asleep, Confused, Paralyzed, Burned and Poisoned.Only your active pokemon, or theirs can be affected by these conditions. These conditions can be removed by a trainer card, or if your pokemon is knocked out.

Sleep:
Show that a Pokémon is Asleep by turning the card sideways, so that it looks like the Pokémon pictured is laying on its back. A Pokémon that is Asleep cannot attack or retreat. After the end of each turn, the player whose Pokémon is Asleep flips a coin. If the coin toss is heads, the Pokémon is no longer Asleep. (Return the card to the normal upright position.) But if tails it is still Asleep, and you have to wait until the next turn to try and wake it up.

Confused
If your pokemon is confused, flip a coin during your turn. If heads you may attack, if tails you take 30 damage. If you retreat the pokemon, the status condition will vanish.

Paralyzed
If your pokemon is paralyzed, it immediatly cannot attack. After one turn it will be healed, no coin toss is involved. Be sure to turn the card side ways when doing so.

Poisoned
Indicate that a Pokémon is Poisoned by putting a Poisoned marker on the card. When a Pokémon is Poisoned, you must attach one damage counter on that Pokémon after each player's turn, ignoring weakness and resistance. Pokemon can be knocked out by this effect. Status condition can end if healed by a trainer card.

Burn
If a pokemon is burned, be sure to put the correct marker on your defending pokemon. Flip a coin, if head place one damage counter on your pokemon, if tails place two.

How to play!

First both you and your opponet will start by drawing 7 cards. Draw extra cards, but they are ONLY for prize cards do NOT use them now. You will pu them were there supposed to go on the map also, You can have as many pokemon as you want but only one can be active. choose what pokmon you'd like to use and put it in play, attach any energy cards but be aware, you can only attach one energy per turn, your foe may do the same.

Each pokemon has HP, which is located at the top right corne. If you do an attack that does 50 damage and they have 80 Hp
they only have 30 HP left.
80- 50 - 30

Put damage counters on that pokemon. Normally 1 damage counte equels ten HP

Every turn you'll be able to attack, or cause a sort of status condition to the enemy pokemon, it's what ever you want to do. If your attack does enough damage to knock out the defending pokemon, you'll get one of your prize cards. When you get your 6th prize cards, you win! When you recieve a prize card, you may use it wteher its a pokemon, trainer card of energy cad. It just shows how close you are to winning! You can also win, if your opponet has no more pokemon to fight with.

When a pokemon faints, or you use up cards they go in the discard pile.
Celebi

Remember pokemon decks are made up of sixty cards each
and be sure to bring a coin to see who can go first!

Pokemon leagues are in order for the TCG, call around your city to see where there being held if you would like to be apart of it. You can win prizes if you make it far! these tournaments take place every year. Be sure to keep buying cards and build on to your deck

Note: Your prize cards never become your opponets if you loose,or vise versa. it's just during play. every time you knock out a pokemon you get one to use during the battle, once you have all 6 of your own prize cards you win!

Deck ratio
Energy Cards: 25-30
Trainers: 10-15
Pokémon: All the rest until you hit 60. Basically, for every 3 basics you have, you have 2 second stages, and 1 final stage
EXAMPLE: 3 Bulbasaurs, 2 Ivysaurs, 1 Venusaur.

Prize cards? Does the person who wins receive the prize cards at the end of the battle?
I'm a bit confused.

No lol, your cards do not become the other persons.
You get prize cards you defeat the opponets pokemon, when you have all 6 of yours, you win.
You NEVER give your cards away

I don't understand because you already have them... and they're just laying there... and then you "get" them when you defeat a pokemon? Do you mean that you get to use one of them each time you beat an opponent's Pokemon?

Yes.
those 6 pokemon cards are just there. everytime you knock out a pokemon, draw one to your bench and you can do what eve you want with it. wether its a pokemon, enegy, or tainer card.
when you have all 6 you win.
That's just how you win, I dont know any bette way to explain it. you draw them at the beginning ot he game and put them there

When I first heard this I was confused too XD I'm like WOW that's hard core if you get to keep your opponents cards.

But you just get to use your own cards...it's like drawing a second card in a turn or something.

It makes sense to me now that you've reworded it.
So - in order to win a match, about how many Pokemon should you have and about how many energies / trainers?

that doesnt matter. your opponet just has to be out of pokemon, or you have to have all ur prize cards
your cards dont matter

If your asking for a rough ratio, it's usually:

Energy Cards: 25-30
Trainers: 10-15
Pokémon: The rest! Basically, for every 3 basics you have, you have 2 second stages, and 1 final stage (for reasons that I hope are obvious XD)

total should be 60~

I want to play so baadddd v_v

Thanks, Clover. I don't think I have any very good cards, but I was incredibly interested.
Maybe I'll try playing with Dakota or someone one of these days. ^_^

I've heard -through the grape vine- that there might be an online Pokemon TCG simulator that our league might be able to use someday O:! So I'm kinda holding out for that!

Edit:
Barry I fixed the ratio part of the guide. I only edited it slightly!
